A Revenant is a human capable of seeing and feeling the world of Xoletec. Although few Revenants ever travel to the other side, parts of that mirror fantasy world still bleed through. As a result, your player character may have seen what he/she believed to be ghosts and may even have heard strange unidentifiable voices in the dark. All supernatural phenomena can be explained by our world temporarily intersecting with Xoletec.

You need to realize that your character has had a slightly different childhood than most normal humans. You may have even had a friend which everyone believed to be imaginary, but could have very well been your first Umbral experience. As such, your character has a much better understanding of the 'mystical side' of life. Whether this experience was traumatic or beneficial or somewhere in-between is up to you.

Also, when you discovered the Sky Cards is also up to you. A baseball card may have shown it's true face only to you as you walked past a store window. Perhaps you were instructed by another older Revenant who acted as a guide and master. All of these ideas are up to YOU; you must design the life and ideas of this player character and then join your fellow players in this fantasy world.

Always remember that for a human, you are considered rare and special.

After reading all of the other sections in the Dice Rules, come on back to make your character. Let's walk through each section on the Revenant Sheet right now.

Character Information

Name: This is the first and last name of your character or perhaps a nick-name.

Career: You may want to choose this after deciding on your skills. This is your occupation (which may even be bum or student...it's up to you!), so try to fit with your skills.
Rank: Your new character always starts at Rank N unless the GM says otherwise (which is unlikely).
XP: This is the amount of experience you have. You should keep track of both what you've gained and what you've spent on new abilities and cards. So there should be two numbers: (amount left to spend) / (total amount gained).

Age: This is how old your character is. Try to choose an age around your own or younger. If you plan on having a very young character, you should consider a high Thought to explain your Skills.
    Gender: Male or female.
Weight: Write down in kilograms how much your character weighs.
Height: Write down in centimetres how tall your character is.

Hair: Write down your style and colour of hair. Don't worry about being too realistic with hair and eyes; treat it like an anime style (so green is okay).
    Eyes: Write a colour here.
Skin: Your colour and whether it's freckly, smooth, hairy, etc.
Body: Consider your weight. Are you fat? Skinny? Built wide? Describe the shape here in a few short words.

Character Attributes

Read through the Attributes section before making your decision. Now that you know what each stat means, you can make some choices. First things first:

Each of your 3 Main Attributes start at 1D6. So Might, Speed, and Thought all start at 1D6. Now, you are given 8 points. With each point you spend, add 1D6 to the attribute of your choice.

Now let's look at your 2 Crucial Attributes. Both Life and Spirit start at 5. Now, you get 5 points. For each point, add 1 to either Life or Spirit.

Character Skills

Alright, read through the skills and figure out which ones you would like to take for your Revenant. Now write down which 8 skills apply to your Revenant as the following:

1 Mega-Skill: This is what your character is known for; consider this as the potential career...in any case, your friends and allies have come to expect excellent skill performance from you in this area. You get to choose TWO bonuses from this skill.

2 Super-Skills: These two skills are meant to complement your Mega-skill...to back you up when you need them. You get to choose a single Bonus from each Skill you choose here. Be sure to pick skills which add to your character's career in his mega-skill.

4 Normal Skills: These are skills that, even if your character doesn't hone them, have been picked up just from daily life. You've worked a little bit in these skills as they related to hobbies and fun daily activities. They aren't quite important, so no bonuses here.

1 Awful Skill: This skill can be considered the opposite of your Mega-Skill. Your character has just always had a knack for completely ruining anything calling for this particular skill. As such, choose something that won't have too adverse an effect on your character's lifestyle.

For starting characters, you may choose an additional Awful Skill to upgrade a Normal Skill to a Super Skill (and get a Super Bonus) or for two Normal Skills. You can also take 2 additional Awful Skills to upgrade a Super-Skill to a Mega-Skill. Remember that you still have to follow skill limits (consult the XP section for more information).

Character Abilities

Okay, you're done reading the Powers section. This is how you follow it:

Your Element is one of Fire, Earth, Wind, Water, Faith. Each one could have a different effect on your character's personality as well as the abilities which are made available to you. Pick the element that you believe fits your Revenant best. You cannot change this in the future.

Next, choose a Strength. It is one of five emotions (Rage, Love, Joy, Grief, Fear). Remember that this is the emotion that defines your character's strength. As such, you will instill this emotion in others through your personality and actions and others will come to recognize you for that emotion. So a person strong with rage would know how to calm someone down or push all the right buttons. Someone in control of Fear would know how to calm his/her friends and instill it in her rivals.

Lastly, choose your Fault. It is also one of five emotions. This is the emotion that you are most vulnerable to feeling. So if Grief is your Fault, then it is easy to make you sad and indeed your character will find it difficult to get over traumatic events. On bad days, your character will simply feel depressed. This is an emotion which comes and goes, always brought to unhealthy levels in your character. Someone with Rage would have difficulties controlling their temper and are easily made angry, for example. If a situation arises which appeals to your Fault (GM's call), you will give in to the moment.

Lastly, choose three abilities from your Element. Look at the Element you have chosen for your character and consult the Abilities list for that element. Choose some of those abilities for your character. They may seem like they aren't too great, but realize that just one of them could give you the edge you need to survive a given situation.

Other Things to Consider...

The following are optional. If you're in a rush or you're simply lazy, don't feel obliged to fill out this section. Still, if you want to really get a feel for your character and you want your GM to know a bit about some secret past or special events, let them know through this section.

Clothing: Write a little bit, talking about the sorts of clothes your Revenant wears. Describe his uniform or costume in as much detail as you deem necessary.

History: Answer the following questions. Where did you grow up? Do you have family? How is your family doing? Who are your friends? Who are your rivals? What kind of lifestyle do you lead? What are the more memorable experiences which lead you to eventually discover that you were a Revenant? How were you introduced to Xotelec? As you can see...there are many questions you can answer, if you want everyone (including yourself) to know your character even better.

Behaviour: Here, try to describe how your character behaves...you know, talk about his personality. Remember that your Element, Strength, and Fault will each have it's own profound effect on how your character deals with stress, new situations, social crowds, combat, and all manners of things.
