If you're interested in taking combat to the next level, then it's time to enter the Field. Card combat in this
game is extremely deadly (although it can be safely played outside the context of the roleplaying game just as the
roleplaying system can be used outside the confines of the Xolotec card game). Whether you're having a friendly
game of cards with your friends or playing out a deadly battle on the Field in the roleplaying game, the rules are
the same and are listed here. Please be aware that the rules listed here only apply to Field Combat and not to
the rest of the game. Similarily, ignore the Roleplaying Rules when in Field Combat and only go by the rules listed
here.
The Role of the Deck Master
Your Revenant is the Deck Master and as such does play an important role which should be noted:
- Your Life will determine how many Night Summons you can safely carry out. Keep track of your remaining life by using
counters or a die indicating it's current value.
- Your Spirit will determine your ability to use spells and other powerful cards. Keep track of your remaining life and spirit by using
different coloured counters (perhaps red beans for Life and blue beans for Spirit) or a die indicating it's current value.
- Every time your Umbral uses an attack based on your Revenant's Element, you get +10% to your attack roll.
- Every time your Umbral uses an attack based on your Revenant's Strength, reduce the Spirit cost of the card by 1.
- Every time your Umbral is attacked by a card based on your Revenant's Fault, you have -20% to your defense roll.
- Every time your Umbral is attacked by a card based on your Revenant's Element, you have +10% to your defense roll.
If you're looking to play a quick friendly game of cards, you don't need to have a Revenant character. Just do the following:
- Choose an Element, Strength and Fault of the Deck or play without these rules.
- Decide on Life and Spirit, 20/20 is a good way to play it.
Tournament: Card tournaments outside of the roleplaying game have 20 Life, 20 Spirit, and ignore all other Revenant bonuses and penalties.
